Candlewood Suites Oak Harbor by IHG

The staff were helpful, and the bed was comfortable. Everything looked nice and new, and the room was immaculately clean. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting oak harbor.

Front desk staff were super helpful, and we enjoyed our stay. The room was quiet, the bed very comfortable, and it was handy to have a separate bedroom since my wife gets up about an hour before me most mornings. The kitchenette was great, though we didn't cook. The bathroom was huge but had only 1 sink. Renovations are going on throughout the hotel, so hopefully they'll replace the dated carpets and curtains.

The area is convenient, parking was ample, and the room was spacious. Most things were fine, but we were really disappointed to learn only on the day of our stay that "pet friendly" meant dogs only, not cats. We had to board our cat somewhere else at the last minute. They also didn't replace the garbage or leave toilet paper when servicing our room. Normally I could overlook that, but I'm bitter about the cat lol. We asked about checking in early and were told the room was ready, but they'd charge one night's stay plus $35 even for an hour early. I'd never come across that before.

The service was poor, and the young woman at the desk seemed to have had very little training. I'd never stayed at a hotel that charged for basic toiletries. Forgot your toothbrush? They wanted $4 for the same brush a cheap motel 6 gives away with toothpaste. This came right after they thanked me for being an IHG member and gave me a complimentary bottle of water. I needed a razor, and the clerk said they had them for sale, but their system didn't list razors when she tried to ring one up. Her first suggestion was to charge me for shaving cream instead, which felt like defrauding the customer. I said it wasn't shaving cream, it was a disposable razor that should cost about a dollar. She kept searching without finding it, so I asked what to do. With some attitude, she said, “Well…if you don’t want to pay for it, I’ll just put it back.” Excuse me? How could I pay when she couldn't tell me the price? It was rude and insulting. I went to 7-11 and bought six better razors for $4, less than $1.00 apiece. That's what it cost to be insulted by the front desk here.
