Best Western Ft. Lauderdale I-95 Inn

Mary was especially kind and patient when I explained our problems, and she listened to my complaint. That’s the only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one. The hotel is very worn down. There were renovation signs, but we didn’t see much that looked renovated. Our room had no phone, and we got locked out from inside several times because the loose latch swung and caught when we shut the door. Water pooled along the tub during showers. The TV remote didn’t work; we went to the desk twice, first to have the batteries changed, then to get a universal remote. We skipped breakfast because the crowd was too large. The only hot choices were eggs, sausage, and oatmeal, and there was just one waffle maker, so we went elsewhere to eat. We hung our towels in the bathroom and put up the Do Not Disturb sign, but housekeeping still entered. When we returned, towels had been put on the chair, which had been empty before. My husband and I have stayed at a Best Western before, and this stay didn’t reflect well on the brand. We’ll stick with Marriott.

We asked to switch rooms, but the second one was barely any better. The first room was visibly dirty, in poor shape, and far below what I expect from a hotel. The whole stay was bizarre and deeply disappointing. The property needs serious cleaning, maintenance, and renovation. Cleanliness and basic upkeep shouldn’t be in doubt when you’re paying for a room. I’d stay somewhere else until they make substantial improvements.

The front desk staff were friendly and professional at both check-in and checkout, and the bed was comfortable. I eventually slept despite the train noise, though my friend barely slept. Trains went by about six times overnight, shaking the bed a little each time; it felt like one might come through the wall. There was also a lot of late-night hallway noise. We had Room 424 on the fourth floor and paid a little extra for two queen beds. The room was clean, spacious, and had two bathrooms. One tub, the one nearer the beds, was completely clogged. The other wouldn’t hold water because its stopper was broken. The pillows were small, more like cushions. We skipped breakfast and ate elsewhere because the common areas didn’t look clean. When we arrived on October 31, someone in the lobby seemed to be in poor condition, which made us uncomfortable. The hotel surroundings didn’t feel very safe either, and I wouldn’t walk alone to my car at night. The entrance door looked dirty and needs fresh paint. The luggage cart area was quite dirty too, so I hung up my belongings instead of putting them there. The hallways and elevator smelled clean to me, though my friend didn’t like the smell, probably just personal preference. I left a housekeeping tip because the room was clean, even though the housekeeper didn’t return my greeting at checkout. The room was fairly nice and the staff were great, but the noise, common area cleanliness, and general environment mean I wouldn’t stay again.

Jordyn at the front desk was so helpful, and everyone made us feel welcome as soon as we checked in. The room was spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We had a wonderful stay in a perfect spot for exploring the area. I’ll definitely be back!
