La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Oakland Airport Coliseum

For a budget trip, I’d recommend this motel. Two of us had a pleasant stay, and it felt like a well-run place once we got into Oakland. There were a few homeless people outside in the daytime and evening, but they didn’t bother us. Overnight, a security guard is there and unlocks the gate when cars arrive. Breakfast was good, with eggs, pork, several juices, yogurt, code tea, bread, and pancakes. The bathroom was kept well, though the bed sagged a bit, maybe because of a spring, and wasn’t the best to sleep on. Thanks to the front desk for the warm welcome and send-off :)

The staff were the highlight, super sweet, helpful, and friendly. They let us leave our bags before check-in, checked us in early, and kept accommodating us throughout the stay. Shout out to Kathy/Cathy, she’s lovely. I’d worried after reading some reviews, but I ended up agreeing with the positive ones. The neighborhood isn’t the best, but it didn’t feel terrible, just like downtown in any city. There’s a gate and a security guard who checks your reservation before you enter. The gate is unlocked in full daylight, and the guard was really friendly. Breakfast is complimentary, nothing fancy, but a nice extra for the price: waffles, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, sausage, yogurt, and a few juices and teas. There’s a small gym, and the rooms are a bit old but clean. The shampoo and soap sets were pretty nice too.

We felt safer with security on site and the gates locked at night. The motel and rooms were clean and well stocked, with big, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a good breakfast. It’s right by the coliseum, and the area seemed okay. I was disappointed that the hot tub was closed for repairs. My main complaint is the staff: they were extremely rude, unprofessional, unpleasant, and disrespectful, and made us feel awful. I love the motel itself, but the way we were treated makes me unsure about returning.

I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t stay again. The rooms were very dirty and weren’t cleaned, and there weren’t any room keys, so the maids had to let you in. Homeless people were walking outside the fence. If you leave early in the morning, a security guard has to open the gate for you. They don’t have breakfast anymore either.
