The WiFi was fast, the towels were clean, the water was warm, and the A/C worked. That's what earns the second star. The room itself was filthy and felt overpriced even at $54 a night. There were different kinds of spiders and webs, dozens of dead flies on the bed and stuck to the blankets, and more bugs seemed to crawl around every hour, though no bedbugs. The smell was intense and still there when I woke up. Stains covered the carpet and walls.

I'm glad this place was here on a freezing night during my cross-country bikepacking trip. With a low of 27° tonight, I needed somewhere warm, and I can't take too many cold nights in a row. The heat worked, the shower had plenty of hot water, the sheets were washed, and the carpet was very clean. I checked the bed for bugs and saw no signs. The door locks worked, and the fridge and microwave worked too, but the TV didn't. The shower handle was falling off and made it awkward to use. I didn't see an office sign, just a little neon “open” sign in a window and a phone number on the door. I knocked and peeked in when the unlocked door opened; a woman was doing laundry in the back and looked unhappy to see me. I felt bad, though I bet she works harder than staff at many fancy hotels. I'm grateful someone here is trying, so I'll leave a tip on the nightstand.

For a quick overnight stop, this was a great deal unless you're someone who needs pampering. The price was very reasonable, and the room was surprisingly clean despite the age of the place. It had no bad smell, even though it was a smoking room, and the clean linens and towels smelled fresh with no strange stains. I checked for bugs right away and only saw the one we let in through the door. The carpet was old but clean and soft. The bathroom was clean too. They didn't have shampoo or soap, but I bring my own. The hot water came almost instantly when my husband turned it on. The bed was firm but not lumpy or uncomfortable, and I slept great, though my husband prefers a softer bed for his old bones. The A/C was fabulous. For the first time in 15 years, he woke up saying he had to go outside and warm up. The age might make you hesitate, but don't let it put you off if you need a clean, cool place to sleep and shower.

I won't stay here again and can't recommend it. The beds were so hard I couldn't sleep, and my TV didn't work in three different rooms, so I had to move. They said the rooms had been remodeled, but it looked like they had only been painted. In my room, there was what looked like a hole cut in the wall, covered with cardboard and painted over. The rooms aren't worth the money.

Alisha, the manager, made us feel welcome and was really helpful. I was happy with the room and the service, and I'll definitely stay again if I'm in the area. It's a very good motel, especially when you're on a budget.
