Hotel Monte Carlo Ocean City

I drove seven hours from Connecticut for my birthday, then turned around and drove seven hours back. The sheets in our room had stains all over them, and the replacement room right above it was just as bad. I left. The clerk only said they would clean it and made no effort to find another room, even though it should have been clean already. I called with my concerns. Chris, the general manager, seemed sympathetic at first, then started referring to the clerk's notes. I explained that I wanted a break from the chaos and a chance to relax, but he abruptly hung up on me. Whoever owns this place needs to sell it. The people running it now aren't doing a good job.

The front desk staff were good for the most part, but we wouldn't stay here again. The location wasn't worth the hassle, and the rooms looked much nicer in the photos than they did in person. Parking is across the street, hard to find, and the spaces are extremely tight. My wife's car got dinged there. Our room was dirty, with a water-damaged drop ceiling, rough towels and blanket, and black mold above the tub. The hot tub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, with hair in it and food stains nearby. We also saw housekeepers set their personal water bottles on clean linens, then saw one of them with the same bottle by the dirty linens. We didn't ask to move because the hotel was full, and we weren't going to leave and look for somewhere else that day.

The beds were very uncomfortable, and the shower wouldn't drain. We told the front desk, but nothing was done. The mini fridges leaked, the walls were filthy, and the sheets had stains and hair on them. Even the blankets felt like tissue paper. The parking spots were absurdly tight, too. We booked through the hotel's app, but the online pictures bore little resemblance to the rooms we found. For what this place costs, it isn't even a good choice for the beach location. You'd be better off saving your money and staying somewhere else. I can't recommend it at all.

The one thing going for it is that the beach is only a 1-2 minute walk away. Otherwise, the whole hotel felt dirty and unwelcoming, from the lobby through the rooms. I've stayed in cleaner, cheaper motels, including one just down the road, and this place costs far too much for what it is. Our room smelled stale and unpleasant, the beds were rock hard, and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling. A used towel had been left on the counter. The shower handle was coming away from the wall, so I could hardly turn it on. The online photos looked heavily edited and misleading, and the place seemed untouched for months. You have to collect towels from the desk, the staff could use serious customer service training, and parking is down the street rather than at the hotel. I wouldn't pay this price expecting a nice stay.
