Sherman Inn

Jim made us a delicious breakfast in the morning, and Donna had already made the evening feel special by inviting me to a watch party at the Inn with food and drinks while it was being figured on television. On my last-minute overnight trip to Ogdensburg, Donna, one of the owners, greeted me with a smile, let me check in early, and showed me around. She also suggested local restaurants and made me feel right at home. The rooms are huge, clean, and really cool. I couldn't recommend a stay here more. Thank you, Donna and Jim!

The rooms were my favorite part of the Sherman Inn Hotel in Ogdensburg: spacious, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed, with a feel that takes you away from everyday life. The building's story adds a lot to the stay. It began as a school, was later taken over by the government, and then sat inaccessible for years before being carefully brought back to life. The couple who run the inn are warm, attentive hosts who make guests feel personally looked after. The place is beautiful, calm, and very well maintained. There's also a big playroom in the old gym where guests can play basketball, soccer, or pretty much any sport, which nods to its school days and makes the visit even more fun. Staying here feels like experiencing a piece of Ogdensburg history in a welcoming, comfortable setting.

The owners stepped in at the last minute when I really needed help, and they were wonderful people to deal with. The rooms are warm and comfortable, and each one gives you a little American history lesson. If you love history and good company, Sherman Inn will meet or exceed your expectations. Thank you both for such warm hospitality.

We first enjoyed a tour of the building, then had a delicious breakfast the next morning. The hosts were incredibly thoughtful and sweet, and the rooms were spacious. My husband said the mattress was the most comfortable one he'd ever slept on in a hotel. I was glad to come back, since I taught there in 2013, and he was looking forward to the unusual historic stay. We didn't get time to use the firepit, but the fall and Halloween decorations were gorgeous. I'd love to see the Christmas decor, or maybe return in summer for the pool. We had a great stay, and the price was great too.
