Inn at Perkins Cove

The price is a rip-off for what you get. There wasn’t even a clock or a bottle of water in the room. The parking lot and rear entrance were poorly lit, and the granite steps at the back had no handrail. Nobody was on site in case of an accident, and the doors felt insecure. It’s a nightmare for anyone with a disability. If someone falls there, you could get sued badly. I could keep going. The town should shut this place down.

We came for the first time this past weekend, my husband and I with two friends, and the stay went beyond what we expected. The rooms were cozy and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Norman and I had been in touch by text before we met him at breakfast on our first morning. He made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The included breakfast was some of the best we’ve had in a long time, and there’s a wonderful restaurant right at the Inn. They also provided beach chairs and towels, which saved us from packing our own. Perkins Cove is only a short walk away, just what we were looking for. One evening we enjoyed cocktails by the fire pit. We’d love to come back.

The room was a 4.5, with a few minor problems and one safety issue that I mentioned to the innkeeper. I hope it gets fixed for future guests. Breakfast and the service there were just okay. I miss the old Hartwell House breakfasts. Service didn’t feel up to the standard of an inn, especially a Select Registry Property. It would’ve been nice if someone had asked at least once how our stay was going, whether we needed help, or wanted restaurant or activity suggestions. It rained for one of the days we were there, so suggestions would’ve helped. I’ve worked in hospitality for 40 years and have never met an innkeeper so disengaged from guests. Maybe she was just having a couple of bad days, as one recent reviewer found her helpful with local restaurants. Our anniversary stay was disappointing.

We stopped in just for breakfast, without staying at the Inn. The food was delicious, and the hospitality and service were wonderful. Five stars!
