Hyatt Place Oklahoma City-Northwest

My wife and I decided to leave after about ten minutes. The room had a faint chemical smell like pesticide, worn surfaces, patched holes, and a bathroom in rough shape. Outside, the location wasn't great, though the raised highway right beside the hotel was convenient. Under it were the kinds of things you might expect to find. Several parking lot lights were out, so I wouldn't leave anything you value in your car. A powerful smell of "dead skunk" hit us as we walked up, and I could smell it on my clothes. I understand Hyatt may not be able to do much about that, but it wasn't pleasant. In the lobby, the ceiling lights blinked, drawing attention to the very dirty upper areas. The receptionist wasn't unpleasant, but we exchanged maybe ten words. I didn't ask for a refund. Hopefully my less than $100 was enough for the budget to fund a major overhaul.

I probably wouldn't book here again. It was fine, but a bit off color, lol. The beds were perfectly comfortable, and the noise wasn't bad unless you're not used to highway hum. I barely noticed it. The place is dated and needs repairs, though it wasn't as bad as some recent reviews suggested. It's convenient and easy to find, and the front desk was very nice. We were able to check in a little early, which I appreciated. The rooms are strangely large and bizarrely laid out. The TV sits between the bed and sofa, facing neither, and the mirrors are oddly placed too.

There were some positives: the front desk ladies were super nice, the rooms were pretty nice with a good temperature and lots of space and storage, and they helped move me after I felt uncomfortable. Still, the location felt very suspicious, tucked behind another hotel. Our first room felt isolated and unsafe. I later found out online that there'd been an incident here two weeks ago, which raised my safety concerns further. One of the front desk ladies was very nice, but something about how she presented herself concerned me. Some men staying at the hotel also made me uneasy as they kept talking to the workers. Since the parking lot is behind the other hotel, many areas are dark, and the hotel has a notice outside saying it isn't liable for risks, including more car break-ins. I looked at the pool but wouldn't come here to swim. It looked foggy, and the room didn't seem safe. My key card kept failing, so I had to go back to the front desk for a new one. The price wasn't worth one night.

The front desk service was good, and the city location is convenient, though the hotel's exterior needs work. This was our second Hyatt stay in three weeks, after one in Florida, so we had a comparison. The carpets had just been shampooed when we arrived, leaving everything damp and wet in the rooms, so we had to switch rooms. Breakfast had been the highlight of our Florida stay, and as vegetarians we were looking forward to it here. Compared with that stay, this breakfast was a total disappointment.
