The staff were kind and helpful the whole time, answered my questions, and kept a good attitude. My room and bathroom were clean, and the bed was decent for the price, though the room could use some updating. The mini fridge didn’t work properly, but I didn’t need it during my stay. It could’ve been more annoying if I’d stayed longer. For what they charge, an older room is a tradeoff I can live with.
The room smelled awful, the sheets had stray hairs, and the bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on the floor. The pillows were soft to the point of being uncomfortable, even with three of them, and I woke up with a terrible backache. Outside, the hotel and reception looked nice, and the rooms looked nice too, but after dark we saw several drunk people wandering around and others whose behavior made us think they might be on drugs. There was no breakfast, and the indoor pool was too cold to use because it wasn’t heated. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We cancelled the second night and moved to the Holiday Inn by the airport.
We asked for more pillows because we were also using the pull-out bed. The woman said she’d call our room once she found some, but after about an hour and a half there was still no word. When I went to the desk, she said they didn’t have any. Our first room smelled horrible, so we requested another. The replacement was similar, except it smelled as if someone had emptied a bottle of cologne in it. It was okay for what we paid.
OYO really left us on our own. After our second night was confirmed at the same rate, they charged an extra $40 “occupancy” fee that they said couldn’t be changed. This followed six hours with no update about getting another room after water started pouring through our bathroom ceiling. We called the front desk right away and used trash cans to catch the water and our bath towels to soak up what hit the floor. Nobody came to clean up, and the cans and soaking wet towels were still there hours later. We had no clean towels. We kept waiting because we had an infant, no power or heat at home in freezing weather, other hotels in the metro were booked because of the ice storm, and we’d already paid in full. We thought the hotel was trying to move us. The manager seemed sincerely apologetic and stretched thin, and initially said he’d find us somewhere else. But it was more than 15 or 20 minutes before he came to inspect the leak, and much longer than an hour before we checked back and heard they were “working on it.” After several calls and visits to the desk, it was six hours before the next update. At 8 p.m., they called to say there were no rooms left that night and claimed we wanted to switch because “we’re having problems with our toilet.” When my husband asked the manager for a refund, he said he couldn’t offer any compensation and only had authority to check us out. He also told us they were overbooked by 50% because of the storm, and had rented out rooms that weren’t ready for guests. We’d arrived during an ice storm after losing power at home and having a power line fall in our backyard, so we’d taken their last, largest room and paid in full upfront, even though it cost more than we wanted. When we needed a second night, they’d reassured us the price would stay the same. It sure didn’t.
I booked the Junior Suite, but it’s right next to the front desk and offices, so you hear everything. Overnight staff watched videos on their phones with their feet up on the counter, snoring away. The whole property has a strange smell that air freshener can’t cover. They don’t serve breakfast or coffee, and there weren’t even cups for coffee or water. There are better choices nearby for the same price or not much more. I won’t be back.
