Studio 6 Yukon, OK

After a nine-hour drive, I found this Studio 6 while crossing the country with my cat. The price seemed very reasonable, and I was pleased with the stay. The room was great and the bed was really comfortable. I usually stay at Motel 6 on these trips.

At least the shower had hot water, and the Wi-Fi was fast even through a VPN. The rest was rough. The floors had some strange oily stuff on them, and the AC gave off an odd smell. From the bed, the TV was so small I had to squint. The mattress groaned like the screams of the damned when I put weight on it. The bed covers had holes that I can only assume came from dropped cigarettes, even though my room was marked non-smoking. There were no handholds in the shower or a mat to step on, going in or out. They provided only two bars of soap and nowhere to put one, while their vending machine charges $12 for liquid body wash. The electrical fuse box was left open. Why?

I booked three nights because the kitchenette and full-size fridge sounded good. The cleaning cart had RAID bug spray on it on the way to our room, and sure enough, the room smelled like straight bug spray. I couldn’t stop coughing. I should’ve known. Don’t stay here unless you have to.

The location is handy, with easy interstate access, places to eat nearby, and shopping two exits away. I stayed three weeks and would come back, though I’d recommend making a reservation. The rooms were clean and bug-free, but pretty average. A coffee carafe and stove knobs were missing, and the microwave was rusty. They replaced the missing items for me, but not the microwave. Remodeling would help a lot. The lobby wasn’t always open. I had to ring the buzzer, wait, ring again, and wait some more. It seems family-run, and they might be “in the shower” or too busy to keep the desk staffed. The people were nice some days and hateful on others. Not awful, just unpredictable.
