The on-site tavern was good, and the views across 4th lake are great. But during snowmobiling season it is NOT quiet. The rooms are run-down, though mostly clean. The water in our room wasn’t potable because of a treatment issue, the toilet leaked from what looked like a bad wax ring or seal, and the jacuzzi tub was filthy. We bought clorox and bleached it four times, but lots of sticky brown scum still came through. Yuck. It’s the Adirondacks, though. Nobody has money for maintenance, and there’s a serious shortage of help.

The lake views from the rooms are fantastic, and they ride snowmobiles right on the lake. It’s a warm, wintery destination for riders and people who enjoy simple pleasures and nice views. The lodge has no staff, but it feels welcoming and warm, with self-serve amenities. On a 10 degree day, though, the nicely decorated lounge fireplace was unlit and there was no staff around. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with good beds, but nothing fancy. A skeleton crew runs the restaurant and bar, which have TVs. It’s a pretty great place to stay and stop off the trail.

We heard loons at night through the open back windows, and the wood paneling gives the big rooms a cozy feel. It was a nice stay. The good coffee helped, though the “breakfast” was pretty wimpy. A few little things could make the place better: outlets near the beds, plus another desk, dresser, nightstand, or some other flat surface for bags and toiletries. The one small desk just wasn’t enough.

We stay at Great Pines often because the staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfast and morning grab-and-go food is awesome. Highly recommend it.

Our family suite with bunk beds was upstairs in the main lodge, which felt cozy, comfortable, and clean. We spent five nights at Great Pines Resort in July and found it ready with what we needed. The breakfast nook had bagels and cream cheese, cereal, hot coffee, milk and creamers, plates, and utensils. There’s also a handy water bottle refill station and ice machine. We got through our whole bucket list: campfire and s’mores, fishing off the dock, and kayaking. We rented a pontoon boat and kept it docked at the resort all week, with no trouble finding a spot. Hope we can return soon!
