Hampton Inn & Suites Mystic

The location is pretty great, right by the village and not far from the highway. Staff were very nice, though one person mostly just stood there. The rooms looked clean and the beds are comfortable. But our fridge didn’t work, the walls are VERY thin, and one of the elevators doesn’t work properly. You can get on when it opens, but it won’t move if you don’t time it right. The other one is the one that opens for you, so you have to keep pressing the button to call it. It’s 6:30am and a toddler and family have been yelling on and off in the hallway for 45 minutes.

The best parts of our stay were breakfast and leaving. From the outside, the hotel looked just “meh,” and if you’re after Marriott-level looks, go somewhere like that. Worse, they gave us a room that was already occupied. We opened the door to find people’s things on the bed and counter, though thankfully nobody was in there. The front desk just said, “Oops.” We got a different, better room, but the floors were sticky and the shower was dirty. They blamed it on housekeeping only coming every other day. The mattress was terrible, the sofa pillow had a big stain, and the bed pillows were nearly flat, so we tossed and turned all night. The walls were paper thin too, and we could hear the people next door having sex as if they were in our room. We’ll never be back.

The lobby was our favorite spot, with its fireplace, TV, and comfy sofas and armchairs. Breakfast is served there too, and it was fantastic. There were lots of tasty choices, including good coffee. Our room was spacious, the beds and bedding were superb, and the whole property was spotless. The staff were excellent. We’d highly recommend this hotel.

A clean, above-average hotel for the price, with a good breakfast buffet and make-your-own waffles. It isn’t glamorous. The location is great: one minute from I-95, five minutes from the aquarium, and 15 minutes from Foxwoods.
