The Governor, a Coast Hotel

The room wasn't clean, the AC didn't work, and the bathtub paint was peeling. Every appliance had something wrong with it, and the inside of the vents was black, which looked like mold to me. The balcony railing was coming loose and felt unsafe. This was a really bad stay. They say they're renovating next year, but that doesn't excuse the current state of the building. I think it should be condemned immediately.

There was no AC at all, and we had no hot water until later that night. They offered to cancel for free, but no discount for the hassle. On Labor Day weekend we couldn't just find another hotel, so it was really inconvenient. We could open the balcony window at night and that was okay, but the room got very hot in the morning. If you book here, get a top-floor room so fresh air can come in. I can't believe I didn't read the reviews.

The linens were dingy, and the room had sliding doors whose safety mechanisms had been removed so they could open fully for airflow. I understand they're getting ready to remodel, but there are still little things they could do to make a guest's stay better. I should have gone somewhere else when the front desk offered a full refund at check-in if I wanted to cancel, since the A/C was broken.

The heat made this the most uncomfortable hotel stay we've had anywhere. We were there in July, and the air conditioning was broken. The sliding glass door opened only about four inches. My husband has a heart condition and trouble breathing, which made the situation especially hard. I can't believe they kept renting rooms without warning guests about such a serious issue. The planned remodel isn't an excuse. They need to get a technician to fix it.
