The staff were very nice and attentive, and even texted during my stay to ask if I needed anything. The hotel was fine for the price, and the breakfast bagels were okay, though the yogurt machine was broken. It looks newly renovated, but you can tell it's an older hotel with a fresh coat of paint. The heating and cooling is somewhat noisy, and rooms in the same category have different layouts, which was interesting.
The location worked well for our needs, and the room was clean and reasonably priced. Like others have said, the renovation is fresh over an older building. Our heat went out, though, and we returned late to a room in the low 50s. The night attendant did a good job helping us get through the night, but working on the HVAC kicked up a lot of dust and aggravated my wife's asthma. They eventually offered an unspecified discount, but only after I reached out, and it didn't even cover the room tax.
For about $120 a night, this newly renovated hotel was a great value. I stayed in October 2025 and had never tried a Spark by Hilton before, but it's a good option when you just need a quick stay. The bed was very comfortable, the room quiet and clean, and there were plenty of toiletries, towels, and a hair dryer. It was nicely furnished, with a good-sized TV, mini fridge, lots of lighting, and a desk for business travelers. Breakfast was a decent quick spread of bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, and fruit. The hotel sits in the middle of lots of shopping, including Kohls, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Hobby Lobby, plus restaurants such as Olive Garden and Texas Road House, and gas stations. It's easy to walk to what you need at the end of a travel day. The staff were very nice, and I'd highly recommend it.
We've stayed at Spark Onalaska twice and would absolutely recommend it for inexpensive lodging. The rooms are large and work well for families, and the bathrooms are in good shape and well kept. Everything was cleaned and sanitized. Carpets and accent furniture looked nearly new and were spotless. We first had a King room with a pull-out sofa, comfortable as pull-outs go, then a 2 queen room. Both times the beds and pillows were comfortable, and the sheets and bedding were crisp and clean. There were two down pillows and two synthetic ones to choose from.
I've been a Hilton Honors member for many years and have stayed at more luxurious hotels, but this was my first low-budget property. Because I'm local to the area, they charge an outrageous incidental fee that matches the room price. They don't care whether you're a Hilton Honors member or not. My advice for the holiday season is to keep your family and friends from staying here because of these fees.
