Town House Inn Oneonta

The location is great, but the stay was awful for $140 a night. The front desk staff seemed indifferent at check-in and check-out. Our first room had dirty carpet and bathroom, stained towels, and dirty walls. The air conditioner didn't work, and they couldn't repair it, so we had to move. That room was much cleaner, but the vents in the first room were full of dirt, and the new one had no warm water at all.

We were stranded for the night and needed somewhere inexpensive, but I can't really recommend this place unless you're in a bind. The staff were nice, though the WiFi instructions weren't clear about which network to use. We did have comfortable beds, hot water, and working AC. Still, the room was dusty and a bit grimy, and there were dark stains on the bedding. We booked a king but got two full beds. A suspicious bug made us worry about bed bugs, and fresh bites the next morning seemed to confirm it. We also found glitter while checking the bedding, and my husband thought he heard a rat or mouse during the night.

Management was very responsive when we needed anything, and the price was reasonable. We had hot water and fresh towels each day, plus a coffee maker and small fridge that both worked well. The room had just been cleaned, though it was a little dated, and each room has its own outside entrance. It's right in the heart of town, within walking distance of restaurants and a convenience store. We'd definitely come back instead of paying more at a less convenient big chain hotel.

We booked a two-bedroom room by phone, but were given one bedroom and are now waiting for them to clean a two-bedroom room for us. There was no staff in the lobby when we arrived, and nobody came after I rang the desk bell. I called, and the manager sent someone over, who then charged $19 more than the price he'd quoted on the phone. Poor service, though the price was good.
