For an older hotel, it was cleaner than I expected. Our room was very small and tight, though that was manageable for a single night on a company trip, especially since we hadn't booked it ourselves. CJ checked us in and was a pretty cool dude. At breakfast, Marcus was hustling and did a great job keeping the food on the bar and everything clean. He was the only kitchen staff member I saw, though others may have helped. I didn't get the name of the woman with purple hair, but she wasn't as friendly and left me confused at checkout. I gave her my name and room number, and she insisted nobody had been in room 216. I told her I had definitely slept there the night before and could take her up with the key I still had. Since I hadn't booked it, I called my boss to deal with checkout.

I booked a specific non-connecting room as a Gold Member, but CJ at the front desk argued that I was only a regular member and couldn't get water or a snack. He didn't ask for my number or apologize after I fetched my other phone and showed him the app. Then he said he'd checked the computer and that my room wasn't connecting, but it turned out to be a connecting handicap room. When I pointed it out, he said that's what I'd asked for. He kept arguing, and after I reminded him that he'd already treated me rudely over my membership, he offered another room at a higher rate. I refused and asked for his manager, then said I'd call Hilton. I stepped outside to make the call, and a few minutes later he followed me out and stood nearby listening. After I spoke to Hilton corporate and came back in, I repeated that I wouldn't pay more and asked him to switch rooms. He yelled that he wasn't checking me in. I'd started recording earlier when he got nasty about my Gold status, and when I raised my phone, he said he wouldn't check me in because he didn't feel safe. That was hard to take seriously after he'd followed me outside just minutes earlier. I was alone on a business trip and asked for a refund and his manager's card. He said he didn't have one and told me to return in the morning. No business cards or plaque with a corporate number, along with other reviews describing rude encounters with the manager, explain a lot about the low ratings here. Do not stay here.

I booked through the Hilton website and had been a Hilton Honors member for more than 15 years, with stays at hundreds of Hilton properties across the United States. On the day we were due to stay, my wife tested positive for the flu. I called to cancel because I didn't want to bring someone contagious into the lobby, open-air breakfast area, or other guest spaces. The customer service representative was polite at first, but said the 24-hour cancellation window had passed. After speaking with the Assistant General Manager a few times through the representative, she got on the phone and spoke in a raised voice. She said the decision had already been made and there was no need to talk to me. I explained again that my wife had the flu and that I thought the hotel would appreciate us staying away. She repeated the 24-hour policy and said Hilton had nothing to do with it, didn't own the hotel, or tell them what to do. I told her I understood that Hilton didn't own it, but that Hilton required certain quality standards across its brands. I also told her I'd never heard an Assistant General Manager speak so rudely to a guest. She said the decision was made, then hung up. Afterward, I wrote reviews on multiple sites and read other accounts describing similar experiences with what seemed to be the same person. I also saw complaints about cleanliness, rude and incompetent staff, and what people described as black mold and fungus in different parts of the property. Given what past guests say they've seen, I can only imagine what might be out of sight. The hotel didn't seem to care that I might bring my contagious wife there. With so many choices around Auburn and Opelika, I'd give this place a hard pass. Read other reviews before booking. Hilton Honors members should know this isn't a real Hilton hotel, and I wish I'd listened to the complaints about rude service.

We arrived around 2:30 AM during a tiring, hectic move across several states. The rooms aren't especially upscale, but ours was clean and comfortable, had what we needed, and was pet friendly. The front desk attendant was very helpful and friendly. When he spotted us on camera with our hands full, trying to get in through a side entrance whose lock was down, he ran over to help instead of making us walk all the way back around the front with the animals. We really appreciated that.

I booked three nights at the Hampton Inn through a third-party platform, but needed to head home after the second. The platform said it would refund the last night if the hotel agreed. The front desk agent asked me to speak with the manager the next morning, but when I returned, I was told the manager was out sick. I asked the hotel to follow up, then got an email from the booking platform saying the hotel had refused. This wasn't a special three-night rate, just a regular booking for three nights. Given why I needed to leave early, I can't understand why they wouldn't refund the unused night.
