Courtyard by Marriott Orem University Place

We left and checked into a Hampton Inn instead, where everything was perfect. At this hotel, they refunded only $20 for all the things that didn't work. The room had a tub because my mom has fibromyalgia, but when she tried to use it that night, it only worked as a shower. The chargers by the couch, coffee pot, and light were also broken. They don't serve breakfast, and coffee wasn't available until 7, unless you bought it at the Starbucks inside. I'm used to places with breakfast and coffee around the clock. They called this a business hotel, hmm.

The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, but the new hotel still feels like it needs work. The furniture and mattresses are only a little better than dorm quality, and our huge heating and cooling unit inside the room was very loud. Maybe we got a bad one, I don't know if they're all like that. There's no breakfast included. The in-room coffee maker produced the worst coffee I've ever had, with no real coffee taste and a strange smell and flavor. You can buy coffee from the Starbucks in the lobby instead. Maid service comes every other day. The new TVs make you sign into Netflix or Amazon and then remember to log out, with no option to cast from your phone. Come on, Marriott, other hotels let you cast. Join the 21st century.

We've stayed here before and enjoyed it, but this visit showed how good the people are when things go wrong. Late at night, the front desk computers were having a system problem, so the staff couldn't process payments or make room keys. It seemed outside their control, yet they were clearly stressed and apologetic. They did everything they could to help us and make things work. We mostly dealt with Sophia, who was incredibly kind. She was amazing.

Kaia, Stephanie, and Erica were all wonderful at their jobs and deserve recognition. I loved the location, and the rooms were quiet. The whole hotel was spotless and tidy.
