Baymont Inn & Suites Ormond Beach

The room had plenty of space, but it was terribly dirty. The floor, the hallways, everything was filthy. It looks like a rundown motel, and it’s shameful that Quality Inn lets such poor management represent its name. I’d never stay here again and don’t recommend it.

We were in town over Easter weekend for my father-in-law’s memorial service. After an 11-hour drive, we got there around 7:30 p.m. and dropped our things in the room before going to eat. When we came back and looked around, we were disgusted. There was an oily handprint on top of the headboard, a pubic hair on the shower wall, and the tub floor looked untouched. A plastic bag was covering the smoke detector. We bought sheets and blankets at Walmart to cover the bed, but the longer we stayed, the worse it felt. The floor was sticky underfoot, so we checked out at 10:30 p.m. The person at the desk refused a refund, though they offered to move us to another room. If the first room was that bad, why would we want another one? We hadn’t researched the hotel ahead of time. The glass sliding doors looked like they’d never been cleaned, and the room was dirty as soon as we walked in. We went next door to Extended Stay and were told they get guests from this property all the time for the same reason. Extended Stay was five-star. I sent a complaint to Choice Hotels and got 15,000 points. Yeppie.

The hotel was confusing to find because it seemed to have three names: Ormond Beach inn, Bayfront, and Comfort Suits. This is no Comfort Suits. The man at the front desk did his job and I have no complaint about him, but the place smelled as soon as we walked in. There were damaged areas, missing tiles, and dirty walkways. The room was the main problem. It was covered in something that looked like dried strawberry jam or dried blood. The inside lock was broken, the fridge was filthy, and the bathroom was dirty and had a questionable smell. We asked the front desk guy for another room, but they had none. He said he’d clean it, but only wiped the counter. These photos were taken after that. The fire alarms were covered in plastic too. Safety.

After arriving late at night, exhausted from a nearly six-hour drive and with local affordable hotels booked, we felt we had no choice but to stay. I searched online for over an hour before giving in. My son and I barely slept in the same bed because we felt unsafe. We pushed a table against the door so we’d hear if anyone tried to get in, then left early. The staff at checkout were rude and unwelcoming. I’ll never book again without digging deep into reviews. Agoda.com had a 6.5 rating, but I’d give this a 1, maybe even a 0. I took plenty of photos and video as proof. Do not book this hotel. It should be closed by the health department, and you’re likely to be as horrified as we were. I booked because it seemed like an okay deal and I trusted it as part of the Wyndham family, since I was in town after a death in the family. When we shut the room door, we saw the security deadbolt was missing and the door wouldn’t close properly. We had to turn the security lock just to keep it shut. The restroom door was almost off its hinges and took a hard pull to close. In the bathroom there was dark residue in the tub, stained grout, and a dark thumbprint on a towel. The floor felt gritty underfoot. There was no chair for the desk, the lampshade was filthy, a corner lamp was rusty, the nightstand had dirty debris inside, and the microwave had no glass tray. The refrigerator was dirty, the bed was untucked at the foot, and the pillows were yellowish and worn. There was no trash can in sight. The bed base was worn, scuff marks were everywhere, the ceiling had mildew stains, and a mildewed curtain nearly covered the A/C. I contacted Agoda.com to ask about a refund, but haven’t received one yet. They said resolution could take up to 72 hours and might not go my way given the deplorable management.
