Motel 6 Oroville, CA

The low price had me expecting very little from the outside. Then, a few minutes into our work overnight in Oroville, my coworker spotted a cockroach on the wall. I got up and killed it, saying, “That guy is not hitch-hiking a ride home with me.” Problem solved, I thought. A couple of hours later, I switched on the bathroom light and saw at least 15 more scattering toward the corners, in all sizes from about 1 inch down to 1/8 inch. So disgusting.

This is clearly an older hotel, despite being described as new construction, though the rooms have been updated. There was no AC, so it was too hot to sleep and I had to leave the window open and listen to the freeway, even in winter. I had another booking later that week and canceled it.

I was disappointed to learn after paying for a room that the pool is no longer available, so they should update the picture. I also found out the internet has restrictions only after getting online. I couldn’t comment on YouTube because it was in Restricted Mode, and some websites wouldn’t open. The lobby worker hadn’t mentioned any of this beforehand. When I asked, she said they knew about the problem but didn’t know how to fix it. Prospective guests should be told before booking. I haven’t run into this at any other motel, and without unlimited access to the internet, I’d think twice about staying here. They need a different internet provider.

The rooms are usually nice, clean, and welcoming when I reserve, but I keep seeing a few cockroaches, usually two or three.
