Oscoda Lakeside Hotel

The room was tiny, with nowhere to put our things and no counter space by the sink. Service felt very skimpy, and there was no housekeeping for us as longer-stay guests. I expected that to be included. The mirrors and TV looked like they’d been wiped with something that left dirty smears. The curtains weren’t hung properly, and there wasn’t a coffeemaker. I thought those were standard.

On our last visit, a family emergency came up, and the staff were understanding and accommodating. We’ve stayed several times over the past few years and look forward to coming back. It’s a great value for the price, with breakfast included. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location right on the beautiful sandy beach is lovely. The indoor pool and hot tub are great to have if it rains.

We spent another weekend here after staying before. It’s under new ownership now, and the improvements are easy to notice. There’s still plenty to do, but they’re open to suggestions. Great value and location, and I’m looking forward to coming back next year.

The beach is the highlight. It’s gorgeous, and beyond a little trash in the sand near the hotel, the lakeshore is beautiful for swimming or watching the waves. I think beach access is a big reason people rate this place highly. There were lots of people smoking just outside the exterior doors, even though our room was non-smoking. We stayed two nights in summer 2025. The room was clean, and we checked carefully for bedbugs without finding any. It looked dated, and the bathroom showed water damage. Shower pressure was decent and the water was hot. The dampness was the biggest problem: the carpet felt wet under bare feet, and our clothes from the first night still hadn’t dried by checkout. I have asthma and woke up each morning with uncomfortable tightness in my lungs. Breakfast was free and had a pancake machine, breads, cereal, milk, OJ, coffee, jams and jellies, and syrup. There was no protein or produce, though the pancakes were good. The front desk was friendly and helpful at check-in but cold at checkout. The staff were different, so I think it depends who’s working. My confirmation email showed $109/night, but we were charged $149/night at checkout. We were frustrated, but by then didn’t feel like arguing, so we left it.
