Motel 6 Oshkosh, WI

I booked this place for one night because it was nearby, though the area seemed sketchy. The room looked okay when I checked in, but about two to two and a half hours later I spotted a roach on the wall. I left immediately and showed the office staff a video. The staff member stared at my five-second clip for about two minutes. He wasn't sure what to do, then said the owner wouldn't approve a refund because more than 15 minutes had passed since check-in. I told him it wasn't my fault the roach appeared later and that I wanted my money back. He didn't seem pleased, but eventually printed a refund receipt and said the money should return to my account in a few days. I don't recommend this motel at all. Save yourself the time and money and book somewhere better.

They gave us a lifetime ban, saying we destroyed the room when we didn't. The managers were rude. We'd stayed for months and paid for the room several times over, and even if the claim were true, they know what they're doing by skipping housekeeping and leaving it as their word against yours. Avoid.

The price was reasonable, and the owners were friendly and accommodating. The TV was great, there was plenty of hot water in the shower, and all the towels and linens were crisp, clean, and white. I had a wonderful stay.

I use a wheelchair and was assigned room 122, one of the two rooms they say are wheelchair accessible. This was easily the worst hotel room I've stayed in during 25 years of traveling in the US. I knew a motel wouldn't be like a Marriott, but using the toilet was the biggest problem. It was squeezed into such a tight space that every transfer on and off it left me afraid I might fall. If you can stand and sit, it may be fine, but if you can't, go somewhere else. They told me their other room, number 123, has a lot more open space, so I might consider that next time. The sink was at eye level when I was seated in my wheelchair, making it hard to wash my face, eyes, brush my teeth, or shave comfortably. The shower was fixed and out of reach, and there was no shower chair, so I used the plastic chair by the desk, which was okay. The towels were always placed above the toilet nearly six feet off the ground, making them hard to get before a shower. Once the curtains were drawn the wrong way, they were impossible to pull back because there was no space between the bed and the AC.
