Days Inn by Wyndham Ottumwa

Our bill receipt showed $134, but we were charged $188. We didn’t leave a mess: we left the bin trash, didn’t make the beds, and gathered the towels for pickup. The pool was closed, even though it was the whole reason we booked here, and breakfast was no good. Worst experience of our lives.

The front desk gentleman was really nice, and I’d stay here again. The place was clean, with no smell at all, which was refreshing after hotels that use overpowering sprays that usually stink. The bathroom was clean and mold free. Breakfast was basic, just coffee, juice, cereal, bread, and small muffins, nothing fancy.

We didn’t stay overnight, just used the pool. It was an inexpensive way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and exactly what my son and his friends needed to get a break from all the COVID restrictions. The staff were friendly and helpful. Based on the service, I’d consider staying overnight sometime.

The front desk clerk was nice when we checked out, and the woman at the desk was helpful when we arrived without towels. She brought us towels, shampoo, and lotion. But the room had no headboard or wall pictures, and the paint and grout in the bathroom were badly done. It smelled musty. When we opened the window, we realized there was a dog daycare below us on the second floor, and the dogs kept barking. The breakfast options were limited, and the biscuits and gravy tasted like paste. The bed was very soft, and the pillows were little squares. We stayed two nights. When housekeeping came, we left a note asking for the stained sheets to be changed, since the stain was there when we arrived. They weren’t changed. Our extra shampoo and lotion were taken, and only two towels were left.
