Hilton Garden Inn Oxford/Anniston

The staff were welcoming to us tired travelers, and we had no problems with service or cleanliness. The room felt humid when we arrived, but we could adjust the A/C and it improved once we turned on the cooling. The bigger issue was the lobby. On both visits, about ten days apart during cold December weather, it felt to me like it was in the mid-sixties. We heard the heating was out, but it was still the same on our return. Staff wore warm clothes, and customers who stayed for a drink or snack kept their jackets on. It was too cold to unwind with a beverage or snack, so the lobby couldn't really serve as the property's social center. The location itself was great.

We waited in the lobby for two hours after check-in time because the rooms still weren't ready. When I asked for a number to reach someone higher up, the staff member gave me the front desk number again, so I ended up back where I started. He also complained about ball teams coming in all week, as though that were our problem. The bathtub hadn't been properly cleaned, either. I've never had a worse experience with hotel staff. This place is badly understaffed and unprepared, and I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I was there for my husband's 50th class reunion, not as a hotel guest. The rented area was nicely decorated and had good lighting. Restrooms were nearby and accessible, and parking was not too bad.

We picked this hotel for the indoor pool and the free breakfast listed on the website, so I was upset to learn breakfast wasn't included. When we asked downstairs, they tried to seat us before explaining the prices, which were crazy. The staff member said they were supposed to tell us at check-in. The next day, I heard them tell another couple breakfast ran from 6-10 without mentioning it would cost $10 for two eggs. The rooms were clean but showing their age, and the staff were pleasant and friendly.
