My room wasn't affected, and I got a good night's rest after the fire department gave the all-clear and the staff got me checked in. A small fire had started before I arrived, and water flooded part of the 5th floor, leaking all the way down to the main floor. The staff handled a rough situation professionally and as effectively as they could. Kudos to them.

My birthday stay at TownePlace Suites Oxford, MS, was supposed to last seven days, but it turned into a stressful and upsetting ordeal. I expected much more professionalism, accountability, and consideration for guest safety from a Marriott property. At check-in, I was overcharged, leaving just $1 in my bank account before an ice storm. It took two days to get the refund. The hotel blamed the booking app instead of taking responsibility. With hazardous weather coming, I called the front desk to add two nights. The same employee who checked me in quoted $119 and set Saturday, January 31st as my new checkout date. Yet housekeeping came on what should have been the original checkout day and told me I was leaving that day. When I tried to sort it out, staff said there had been no extension and told me to come downstairs. There, I was accused of lying, spoken to dismissively, and confronted by several staff members who hadn't been part of the original conversation. One was aggressive in tone. They then raised the rate to $145, seemingly to dispute the earlier quote, and said I might be allowed to stay if I “apologized” to management. That was extremely inappropriate. With dangerous weather and limited fuel, I was effectively forced to leave during the ice storm, which felt unsafe and contrary to basic hospitality. The General Manager wouldn't give me corporate contact information and said she would file a complaint against me if I reported the incident. That felt retaliatory. I am also formally disputing charges on my card after the stay. At check-in, the overcharge took nearly all my available funds during severe winter weather. The hotel said it would be corrected, and I have documentation showing the refund was processed. Later, during the front desk dispute about the extension and forced checkout, I was explicitly told my money was being refunded and received a refund receipt. After I had checked out and was no longer in the room, the card was charged again. I had not been notified of or authorized that post-checkout charge. Because it came after the confrontation and after I was denied corporate contact details, I believe it was improper and retaliatory, and I am disputing it as unauthorized and fraudulent.

The staff were friendly and the hotel was nice, but I'm not sure how it's open right now. I stayed a couple of nights ago and woke up to a fire on the 5th floor. Water was pouring out of the lobby fixtures, and the whole hotel was flooded.

What made the stay especially easy and enjoyable was the service. Every staff member I met was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, and you could tell they cared about guests. The rooms at TownePlace Suites in Oxford were clean, comfortable, and well kept. I'd definitely recommend staying here when you're in Oxford.
