Olympia Lodge

The receptionist was friendly and welcoming, which made check-in pleasant and easy. Olympia Lodge is in a great spot, tucked into a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, and my room was spacious and clean. The bed squeaked loudly, and I found the pillows a bit firm since I prefer softer ones. Those were minor annoyances, though. I had a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

The only upside was being fairly close to downtown Pacific Grove, which was nice to walk around. The rooms, though, were gross. Our first one had bugs and hair in the bathroom. The woman at the front was very nice and moved us, but the second room was even worse. There was a bug in one of the beds and another in the bathroom, and the bathroom smelled horribly of what seemed like mold or mildew. Showering was hard, and we felt disgusting. We checked out early and thankfully got a partial refund, then stayed somewhere else for the rest of our trip to Monterrey.

My room had a strong musty smell, and there was no housekeeping. There's no A/C, which seems very strange for California. The bathroom was tiny, with heavily used caulk, and didn't look updated or well cared for. There was also a stain on the wall beside the bed. No idea what it was, and I didn't want to find out. Not worth the price.

We found the room so unpleasant that we packed up and booked a Holiday Inn just eight minutes away. It was hot and humid, and while we should have checked whether there was air conditioning, the only option was a fan in the closet. We had arrived at 7pm after missing the 6pm check-in time, but fortunately someone was still there. Once we started settling in, the rest was hard to ignore. The screen door was ripped and had no handle or lock. There were what looked like blood stains on the bed's box spring, a spider on a pillow on the other bed, and the room hadn't been vacuumed. The walls were dirty, and everything felt disgusting. No employees were available, so we couldn't ask to switch rooms. We've never left a room for another hotel before. Don't stay here. For a little more money, a chain hotel could have amenities, staff available, and even complimentary breakfast. I have pictures but can't attach them to this review.
