We had a good three-night stay at the Best Western in Pacific Grove and would come back. Our king room had loads of space, thanks to a huge walk-in closet that could almost fit another bed, and the bathroom was roomy too. The location was handy for central Monterey, though not close enough to walk there easily. The room got a bit warm and stuffy, and the ceiling fan didn’t move enough air. We were on the third floor and there’s no elevator. That was fine for us, but could be tough for some people.

It’s an easy walk, about 10 minutes, to the beach, and I had a good stay. The rooms and amenities were nice. Breakfast was okay, though a few more choices would’ve been welcome.

The water from the tap tastes awful, but that’s the county, not this hotel. I’m being dramatic when I call the county water-forsaken, it’s not unsafe or anything. If I have to be in the area, I’ll pick this hotel. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and comfortable, the location was good, service was good, and it had all the amenities I wanted.

I came back to my room at night and was stunned to find there was no AC. I figured the coast would stay moderate, and I could manage without this basic amenity by leaving the screen door open. Except the door wouldn’t close properly. It’s ridiculous to have no cooling and screen doors that aren’t maintained well enough to keep mosquitoes and other bugs out. With so little time to sleep, I ended up hot and sleeping worse than I would in the back seat of an Altima.

I forgot to review this place after our 2021 stay. My husband and I had booked another hotel, but things went wrong and we had to cancel. We booked this Best Western in a panic, and it turned out to be the best decision. The man at the front desk was so nice and accommodating, and the townhouse setup felt more comfortable than a standard hotel. If we visit California again, we’ll come back.
