The Charles Pacific Grove - Artfully Designed Inclusive Inn

The bathroom had plenty of hooks and counter space for our toiletries, a thoughtful detail we appreciated. Our room was clean, lovely, and welcoming, and we had a great time chatting with other guests at social hour. The evening charcuterie and cookies were great, as were the breakfast options. The Charles Pacific Grove is in a safe, easy-to-walk neighborhood near Lovers Point beach. We had a very comfortable stay.

Paola, the manager, and Alexandra (sp?), who served breakfast on weekdays, were both warm and welcoming. We enjoyed talking with them, and the evening wine reception was a relaxing way to wind down and visit with other guests. The wine was good, the snacks fine, and the sitting area comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful, though not especially good. They also make espresso drinks on request, which was a nice touch. The inn is easy to get around from, and walking anywhere in Pacific Grove was simple. Our room had enough space, but it smelled musty and strongly of cleaning products. The bed was very firm, and the clean bedding wasn't fancy. Some of the decor feels historic, while other parts are dated and a bit worn. Calling ahead before our visit was a little clunky. We expected more based on the rating and reviews, but found it just fine rather than as good as we'd hoped. It costs less than some other places in town.

We had a restful, quiet time on our three-day girls' trip. The place is charming and close to everything, and our room was comfortable. Staff were really friendly and the service was outstanding. We enjoyed breakfast every morning, plus the offer of espresso or cappuccino. The nightly wine and snacks were just right, and those late-night chocolate chip cookies were a nice extra.

The coded entry for the main house and our room made the place feel very secure. The Police dept. and Fire dept. are right across the street, too. We were all pleased with our three-night stay at The Charles, from Feb. 24 - 27, at the start of our Highway 1 coast road trip. There were two couples in our group, and we all enjoyed the rooms and service, along with breakfast and the 4 o'clock wine hour with its very nice charcuterie board. If we're in the Monterey area again, we'd stay here and recommend it to others. I can't think of anything negative.
