The little trail around the lodge and the pond made the place feel so peaceful. We loved unwinding in the roomy, cozy common areas after hiking, and I even did an interview there because it was such a calm, inspiring setting. The building is old, but that’s where its warm, authentic mountain lodge character comes from. It’s also one of the closest places to the Mount Rainier National Park entrance, which made getting into the park early really easy. It may not suit someone after modern luxury, but we’d happily stay again for the history, warmth, and location.

Customer service was above and beyond, and our room was very clean with properly hot water. The rooms were more updated than the reservation photos suggested, and the memory foam beds were a first for us. We came with our two young kids and all had a great stay. The pond and grounds are beautiful, and we love how remote it gets in winter. We’re hoping to make this a yearly family trip. Plan food ahead: breakfast is prepackaged and has to be ordered through the website, and restaurants in the small town may close seasonally, especially in winter. Also, the quick road from Packwood is closed half the year, which added about two hours to our drive from eastern Washington. The place was built in 1912, but we had no issues.

We arrived really late, but check-in was easy and everything was ready for us, including the map and keys. They even gave us a free upgrade. The room had a comfortable bed and a bidet, and the lodge is only two miles from the mountain entrance. We slept too late to catch breakfast, so I wish breakfast ran a little longer. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll be back.

The pond made a beautiful, serene backdrop for our wedding photos, and the whole stay at Alexander’s Lodge became part of one of the happiest moments in our lives. We came to Ashford for Valentine’s Day hoping to elope with a few close family members. About two weeks ahead, I spoke with manager Jared, who was kind, patient, and eager to help. He made what could have been stressful feel easy and exciting. The lodge is over a hundred years old, and you can feel that history as soon as you walk in. Our room was clean, cared for, and comfortable, with a cozy welcome that didn’t feel dated. Everyone we met was friendly. We especially liked talking with Chris in the gift shop, who was a delight and went out of his way to help. We felt welcomed, not just like guests, and will always associate this place with that special day.

We still find ourselves dreaming about going back, even nearly two months later. The Glacier Room’s small porch was lovely for coffee in the morning or a beer under the stars at night, and the rustic rooms suited the cozy stay near the national park entrance. The pre-prepared breakfasts were a lifesaver each morning. One evening, a friendly gentleman at reception introduced us to his dog Scrappy and let us feed the fish. We also bought a few small souvenirs that looked like they’d been in the shop for a while, but they were just right. I hope more people have a look in there. Thanks for a great experience.
