Courtyard by Marriott Page at Lake Powell

The rooms are great and the beds are really comfortable. Location and price were both great too. The restaurant was my one complaint: at most Courtyards, BonVoy members can get a reasonably priced breakfast at the bistro, but this location charges almost $25 per person and only gave us a $10 voucher. We ended up eating Pop-Tarts instead.

After an hour in the room, I still had an uneasy feeling, so I packed my bags, went downstairs, and checked out. I had already opened a case with Marriott about what happened at check-in. The credit card system was down, and Dominic said he'd process the card in the back, taking my ID with him. I didn't mind waiting, but then I heard the copier and learned he'd made copies of my documents without telling me. I hadn't agreed to have my personal information copied and didn't trust it would be disposed of properly. When I asked what he planned to do with the copy, he crumpled it up, shook with anger, typed things on the computer, and said he'd cancel my reservation. I was only asking about the copy, and I was glad there was a desk between us because he seemed ready to swing at me. He went to speak with someone, then returned still shaking but checked me in. I still don't know what happened to the copy. Two families checking in after me weren't asked for copies of their documents. This was an incredibly dated hotel, and the service felt like a seedy motel, a sorry place to carry the Marriott name. Dominic seemed well mannered at first, but questions beyond his canned answers made him angry and upset. I don't normally write reviews, but this experience deserved one. I'd rather sleep outside or in my vehicle than stay here again, even if it were the only vacancy in Page. To Dom, please get help, because that level of anger can't be good for your heart long term. Management, train your people better. I didn't want to contact you, since this employee reflects your poor management. I stayed at the Best Western up the road afterward and had a far better experience.

We liked the spacious rooms and the resort feel around the property. It's a little dated, but everything was kept clean. The pool is somewhat deep; at night, soaking in the hot tub and looking at the stars was super romantic. We really enjoyed our stay.

The rooms are nice, and plenty of the desk staff are friendly. But I ran into a payment problem and nobody at the front desk seemed qualified to sort it out or could reach anyone who was. When the manager was available, he was condescending and defensive. I think I would've had a wonderful stay without the payment trouble. I've now been charged twice, and no one at the hotel seems concerned.
