I couldn't sleep at all because one of the beds had a huge dip in the mattress. It was so uncomfortable that I ended up trying to make a bed on the floor with the comforter. We noticed the problem after using the bathroom and sitting on each bed. I went straight to the front desk to ask about changing rooms, but was told we couldn't switch because I'd used the restroom. I was honest about it and said I'd try to manage with the bed. The next morning I tried to speak with someone at the desk, but nobody was there. If a good night's sleep matters to you, I'd think twice about staying here.

Paul and Allin were so helpful with restaurant ideas, hikes, and getting around Pagosa Springs. It's a clean, lovely family-owned business, and I'd definitely recommend staying at the Hillside Inn!

We liked the location and amenities, and tried to make the best of our stay, but the upkeep was so poor that we nearly asked for a full refund and went somewhere else. The first room hadn't been cleaned at all: the sheets and toilet were dirty. Management moved us, and the next room was better but still not clean. The comforters had no covers and, as far as we could tell, weren't washed between guests. There were makeup marks on our pillows and two dirty towels. The bathroom fan and one bed were broken, and the fan was extremely loud. The manager said they have ongoing problems with the house cleaners because they're chronically short-staffed in Pagosa, and that any criticism makes them quit. Breakfast was decent, though there wasn't any hot food despite what other reviews say. There was cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, a blueberry muffin, toast and a bagel, plus juice, tea, and coffee. The beds were very hard and springy. We needed the hot tub for back spasms, but the pool room was still locked an hour after opening. When we called, the woman was rude and hung up on my sweet husband. The hot tub water was dirty and a little slimy, and the pool-room bathroom was horrendous. Some towels in the “clean” pool towel stack had clearly been used and refolded without washing. This place has potential, but the upkeep is dysfunctional and absent. We don't recommend it and won't return.

We had to evacuate our home, and it was great that this hotel let us bring our dogs. They didn't offer a discount for people who'd been evacuated, but that's okay. The rooms were nice and clean, and there's an indoor pool and hot tub.
