Hyatt Place Melbourne/Palm Bay

I’ve stayed here three times, and it’s always my first place to look when I visit family. It’s quiet, the rooms are clean, and breakfast is good. I love that my family could sit comfortably in the room during my recent visit to meet my newborn granddaughter and visit my daughter, giving her some breathing room at the same time. The pool is clean, and I believe it’s heated in winter.

The beds were cozy and clean, the TV was easy to stream to, and the location was good, but I didn’t feel the price was justified. Breakfast was very subpar, with many items already gone when we came down on Saturday, just an hour after it began. During our three nights, housekeeping never came to tidy the room, and we ran out of shower soap. We were also billed for parking despite not having a car.

Every time I stay here, I end up waiting at least 15 minutes for someone to appear at the front desk. This time, after more than 20 minutes, three other people were lined up behind me. I asked a cleaner if she could find someone, but she told me to wait. Eventually another guest went from room to room looking for help, and Sara finally came out of one of them. I wanted late checkout, something I routinely get at other Hyatt hotels. The room was under my husband's name, and I gave Sara the room number and explained that he had authorized me to check in and added me to the reservation the day before. She said I had to pay because I wasn’t a “world of Hyatt member.” My husband was interrupted at work and had to call to authorize me again. Sara said that was necessary because I wasn’t the member. I don’t understand why I can pay more under his name without another call, but can’t use his benefits when he’s already authorized me and staying in the same room. This policy seems to work differently at this Hyatt location than at the others where I stay. Either apply it consistently across hotels or change it. I shouldn’t have to feel like less of a person because I’m not the “world of Hyatt member” when my husband, who is, has authorized me. There should also be more staff on duty, or employees should be at their assigned stations.

The staff were very nice, and breakfast was good. It was quiet at night, too. The TV in our first room didn’t always work. After we’d been out for five hours, we returned to find no fresh towels, no made bed, and no toilet paper or Kleenex. We moved to another room, but when I needed to get something from the fridge, I waited ten minutes at the desk and couldn’t find anyone to let me back in, so I left.
