Redwood Arms Motel

The owner made sure we had a good stay, and our room was comfortable. It was a very clean place to stay while visiting the Grand Mesa.

The owners have managed this place for decades and really know the area. They’re genuine people who make you feel like part of the family. Wonderful hosts.

The room was uncomfortable, and the stay was unpleasant. Our experience didn’t come close to matching the glowing Google reviews. The room smelled odd, had scratchy sheets, no closet, and almost no bathroom counter space. There was a tacky, torn upholstered chair that looked like it came from a thrift store bargain section. Worst of all, there were no working outlets near the bedside or table, and one outlet was cracked and loose. Charging anything portable was a challenge. The smoke detector also showed no sign of life. I have to wonder whether this meets code. We usually like older retro motels, especially when they provide charging stations and other basic things travelers need. Apart from Wi-Fi and satellite TV, everything felt dated, sparse, and neglected. Parking was tight when we arrived at the full motel. Our neighbor was cooking on an electric skillet balanced on a mini fridge outside his door, about five feet from ours, with an extension cord running under his door into the room. Between that and the other obstacles, unloading our car was difficult, and the setup seemed like a possible electrical safety hazard. The room we got wasn’t shown on the Redwood Arms website and didn’t look recently renovated like some reviews say. Staying here seems like a gamble.

An unexpected situation meant we had to stay in Paonia longer than planned, and Karolina greeted us with such warmth and positivity. Our room was clean and cozy. We had a lovely stay at Redwood Arms. Thanks for everything! 💛
