JW Marriott Camelback Inn Scottsdale Resort & Spa

Spending the day by the pool felt like a proper vacation. The grounds were immaculate, service was prompt, and everyone on staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was very impressed with my stay. The buffet breakfast had amazing, seemingly endless options. We’ll be back every year after such a good experience.

We had to postpone our honeymoon after catching the flu, and the director was kind and understanding while helping us rebook. That care meant a lot. When we finally got to JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Resort, it felt like paradise. Our room was lovely, the view was stunning, and everyone we met, guests and staff alike, was warm and welcoming. The hospitality made the whole visit relaxing, memorable, and special. We can’t say enough good things and will definitely return again and again.

The spa pool, which has always been our favorite part of Camelback Inn, is completely closed while the spa is “under construction.” That wasn’t disclosed on the website, which still says on the booking page to “enjoy our newly renovated spa…” With spa guests now using the main pool too, seating there is tighter, and nearly half the chaise lounges, including at the adult-only pool, are blocked off and available only for purchase. The only gym resort guests can currently use is what you’d expect at a motel, with no AC in Arizona. At check-in I was told we could use the spa center gym, as I have on every other stay, but it was locked at 7am. The spa team said it’s only for spa guests and doesn’t open until 8am. I even offered to book a massage, but the spa was booked for our entire stay. For reference, the fitness center photo on the hotel website is the spa gym, not the one resort guests can access. Breakfast was another mess. We were told at check-in it ran until 11am, but at 10:33am the hostess barely looked up and said it ended in ten minutes. She said they were setting up for Sunday brunch, supposedly from 10:45am to 2pm, while our waitress said brunch started at 11. Who knows. When I tried to raise concerns at the front desk, the replies were rude. Employees give different stories, and when you ask about a change, they tell you it has always been that way, even when you know it hasn’t. The front desk manager was supposed to call me after I left my cell number, but never did. Instead, the spa called to say I should be glad I’m paying the current resort fee because they plan to raise it, though haven’t yet. We’ve been loyal Camelback Inn resort guests for decades, taken countless vacations here, and hosted many events. Each visit has been a little worse than the previous one. Past “highlights” included horrific food poisoning from the steakhouse and a pool cocktail bill for thousands of dollars for items that weren’t ours. This stay was the point where we decided we won’t return, especially with so many better resorts nearby. It’s sad given all our family memories here. I’m also puzzled by the pet policy. The number of guests with huge dogs seems to have quadrupled over the past few years. I love animals and watching the birds at Camelback, but there seem to be fewer birds now, while dogs are constantly around the outdoor restaurants and shared seating areas.

Kenni at Ora Cafe made our anniversary evening feel extra special. The service was thoughtful, attentive, and friendly, and we felt truly welcome. We had an amazing time celebrating. Thanks for helping make our day even more meaningful! ❤️
