We’ve stayed at Ponderosa Gardens twice now when family visiting from Nevada got us a room for the weekend. It gave us more time together, and my daughters loved being with their grandma. She took them to the pool, then they all unwound in the hot tub. Both times we had the same room. It was very clean and had what we needed: two beds with a nightstand between them, a large bathroom with a shower and tub, a small table and chairs, dresser, TV, little coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge that fits a few small items. There’s a gift shop inside the office with some nice things, too. It’s a friendly place with nice grounds and a pool. Something strange happened with the microwave on both visits. The first time, around 4:30 or 5 a.m., it started by itself while my boyfriend and I were nowhere near it. We’d gotten up at 4 to finish a banner for our daughter’s soccer game. There’d been no power surge or flicker, nothing. After it ran for a minute or two, I had my boyfriend unplug it. Over Halloween weekend on our second stay, it came on again for no reason and woke me around 3:45 a.m. It ran for a few minutes, turned off for 10-15 minutes, then started again several more times before finally stopping.

We spent a month at the Ponderosa in summer 2015 while waiting for escrow to close on the home we bought in Paradise. I wish they offered a discounted weekly rate, but that’s my only complaint. It was quieter for sleeping than our former home in Orange County, which we’d just sold. The pool is small but clean, and the free breakfasts were excellent. I stayed for 10 days on a work trip. The room had been updated, and the employees were great, going out of their way for guests. Lovely place to stay. If I worked in Paradise again, this would be my spot.

The kids had a blast and spent most of our stay in the pool, so I’m already looking forward to coming back for more swimming. Breakfast was included, too. The motel staff were very nice and accommodating, especially when the shower needed a repair. They let me use the adjoining room while it was being fixed. I was very happy with my stay at Ponderosa Gardens Motel in Paradise, CA.

The continental breakfast had solid choices, and the coffee was surprisingly good. Staff couldn't have been nicer. With beautiful grounds, a pool, and clean, comfortable rooms, this is a great old-school motel. A+.
