Linwood Motel

The owners have been friendly and helpful, and I feel safer here at Linwood. The parking lot is well lit and the place is quiet and peaceful. My last hotel was dark and scary, and my tire was slashed there. This room is nice and clean, with a fridge and microwave, unlike that previous hotel. I’m booked for a week and may stay longer. I’m comfortable and very satisfied.

The first room smelled overwhelmingly of cigarettes and wasn’t very clean. My husband hadn’t asked for a non-smoking room when he booked, but when I went back to the desk, they switched us without any trouble. The replacement room was clean and smelled good, and the people who helped me were nice.

I went in with mixed feelings and tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt, knowing it was rated 1-2 stars. The owner held my ID as a deposit and told me to keep the room clean. There were cuts in the chairs and holes in the curtains, but I tried not to judge at first. Then I found a week-old-looking burrito and dog hair that wasn’t from my dogs in the fridge. I’d worked housekeeping at Quality Inn, and this wasn’t sanitary. People had written or carved their names into the headboard, and there were several flies in the bedside drawer. I shut it and went back to sleep. I found bugs, so I wouldn’t sleep under their covers, and asked the owner for a trash bag to put my own blankets in for washing. He didn’t have one. Next time I’ll sleep in my car. I had $108 on my card and asked to leave $8 for food, since I didn’t think one night at a 1-star motel should cost over $100. They charged $100, then another $8 went through before I could lock my card.

The bathroom was clean, the bed felt medium-soft to my husband and me, and the check-in guy was polite. The room cost under $100.00, plus a $10.00 cash deposit that you get back at checkout. It was a nice, cleaned-up motel, with an old-fashioned smell that reminded me of my grandparents’ house, and furniture to match.
