Mi Casa Hotel

I spent four days and three nights there, and didn’t see any bugs. The free breakfast was decent, and the clean, modern rooms felt welcoming. I’d recommend it to a couple traveling on a budget. When I arrived, a worker helped with my things, showed me to the room, and checked it before I settled in. The AC wasn’t working, but he moved me to a much better room within 30 seconds. I had to switch a second time because of a bathroom ceiling leak, but these things happen.

I love adventure and miserable conditions, so I gave Mi Casa two stars after a three-day “Survival Week.” I came home a “changed and matured man.” The room photos may have been made with AI. Mi Casa definitely isn’t Tu Casa. The so-called continental breakfast wasn’t there, even when I got up early. Prices weren’t “that” cheap, so if you need basic human necessities, book somewhere else. The bathroom was terrible, the hot water was a problem, and the toilet wouldn’t flush, so I’d suggest taking care of #2 elsewhere. Don’t expect coffee, bagels, or water in the lobby or from room service. No heat in winter, possibly no AC in summer. Bed bugs might be possible, though I can’t be sure since I’m immune to those little monsters.

The pool was nice, with plenty of seating, and the poolside restaurant and tiki bar had wonderful staff. The rest of the place needs serious work, apart from the lobby. We even killed five bugs in the room. There were unexpected arrival charges, a $50 deposit and $35 for room upkeep. The hot tubs were cold and broken. Our sheets had cigarette burns, the comforter had huge rips on both sides, and there were only three small, uncomfortable pillows. I bought two pillows for the nights we were there. The TV was tiny. One associate was on his phone when we arrived and didn’t acknowledge us until I spoke up, but the other staff were nice throughout the week. Trash was changed after the first night without a new liner, then again on day three with one. We had to get our own towels, which were very small and poor quality. The bathroom had a hair dryer, which was a plus, but only two small towels, no hand towels or washcloths, one mini shampoo, one conditioner, and two soap discs. The shower curtain was torn along the top and wouldn’t stay closed at either end. A large hole in the tub was covered with a rubber mat. Breakfast was runny scrambled eggs and sausage, white and what bread, waffles, then bagels on one day, and two cereals. It was a letdown, so I bought peanut butter to make it work.

I almost never leave a bad review, but this stay was so poor I feel I should warn other travelers. The hotel seemed neglected and poorly managed, with no basic sense of hospitality. The room was visibly dirty and had an unpleasant odor that wouldn’t go away. I found insects inside, and the furniture was extremely old and worn. Even the towels were rough and stiff, like sandpaper. Breakfast had very few choices and poor-quality ingredients, and the buffet closed at 9:00 AM, much too early and inconvenient. Check-in was stressful too: problems with my reservation took more than an hour to resolve, and staff didn’t seem equipped to deal with it. The place felt abandoned. I won’t return, and would strongly advise looking for somewhere else in the area.
