Motel 6 Paris, TX

The price is great, and it's easy to get around from here. The people were nice, too. Rooms are large and newly remodeled, with clean, well-kept new floors and a tub. The bathroom is in its own walk-in area, and the parking lot is well lit. They do a mini clean every day, and the new refrigerators have separate freezers. Seems like a good fit for a longer stay. I'd stay here.

The main reason this gets two stars is that, for the most part, the room was clean. The bed looked okay at first, too. We asked to see it before agreeing to stay, but a quick look didn't reveal the problems we found once we were there. We were cold all night because the heater didn't work and the bedclothes were so thin. Neither of us got much sleep, and the bed left both of us with backaches. Noise didn't help: a dog next door barked for a while, then people upstairs pounded around above us. The TV remote only worked if you held it way over your head and aimed it at the TV, which got tiring when trying to find a channel. The room service hadn't emptied the trash, and a dirty washcloth was still draped over the shower head. After picking up after our dog, we couldn't find an outdoor trash can, so we had to walk all the way around the building to the dumpster. We saw bags of dog poop left in the planters by other guests who apparently couldn't find a bin either. Then, after my shower, I opened my towel and found a clump of hair caught in it. We've stayed at many Motel 6's over the years, including THIS location within the past 2 years, without this many problems. This was a lot to deal with in one stay.

The staff were truly excellent. There are lots of dining choices nearby, too. The area itself isn't the best, though they do what they can to keep the outside clean. The dumpster gave off some foul smells. Inside, the only real issue was a pretty sticky floor; otherwise the room seemed clean and nice for the price.

The bed wasn't comfortable, and there's nothing special to brag about with the rooms. It did have a microwave and fridge, but this definitely isn't a 5-STAR hotel.
