Northern Lights Inn

Our room was clean and quiet, and the staff were nice. The Lanes next door was great to have nearby, and its employees were great too. But we stayed three days and paid full price despite the hot tub being broken, with no discount. The hot tub in our room didn’t work either, and its drain stop was broken. The pool area had visible mold climbing the wall by the shower. In the pool, we could feel gravel and dirt underfoot, and I’m sure there was a hair tie on the bottom too. A ceiling tile had been removed, and there was a foul smell in the back hall. We complained, but it felt like the employees had already reported the problems and the owners weren’t going to act. If you charge full price for services that don’t work, you need to fix them ASAP or lower the price.

If you’re hoping to sleep, this isn’t the place. There’s a sign asking for quiet after 10 p.m., yet drunk people were loud in the lobby all night, coming and going from their rooms and slamming doors. Absolutely terrible stay.

For what we paid, I expected better. We were on the second floor, where the air conditioning barely worked, and my husband hardly slept because the room was so hot. We also had no clean washcloths, so we used the hand towels instead. The jacuzzi tub hadn’t been cleaned. Dirty washcloths were left in it, and there were blunt remnants and ash on the tile around the tub. Very disappointing for the price.

We’ve supported this local hotel for more than 10 years, along with the attached restaurant. That includes years of gym membership, referring everyone we know who needs a hotel, and ordering food almost every week. We know the people there and they know us, so I expected better treatment for our wedding plans. We booked a room so my wife could stay the night before our wedding and get ready without me seeing her. Months ahead, we asked if she could check out an hour late so a limo could pick her up at the wedding time. We were told that was fine and that she’d be assigned a room nobody was checking into the next day. On check-in day, though, we were told she’d be charged for a whole extra night if she stayed even one minute past checkout. The room also hadn’t been cleaned properly. There were hairs on the sink as if someone had shaved there, and lots of little hairs on the towels, like they hadn’t been washed well enough. When we raised the checkout issue, we were told, “One minute after 12:30 and you'll be charged.” I wish this had been handled better. Instead, it made our special day even more stressful.
