Candlewood Suites Pearland by IHG

The location worked well for why I was in town, and it was quiet since the hotel sits back from the road. I’d probably stay again. My room looked neat and clean, smelled fresh, and had a coffee maker. There were no bedbugs or roaches. A few things were only okay: the linens were clean but had old stains, the tub had rusty patches, and there was coffee but no cream or sugar. The soft, squishy bed wasn’t kind to my bad back. I liked having a grab bar outside the tub, but there wasn’t one in the shower, and the tub floor was very slippery. The hallway carpet needs replacing too, since it smelled like an old dog. Still, it was good enough overall.

The complimentary coffee was available only on the first day, then missing for the rest of the week. Getting fresh sheets and towels was difficult too, since staff never seemed to have any on hand. Most of the staff were nice, though a couple seemed like they didn’t want to be there. The photos made the place look better than it was. The building smelled terrible, and the room had an unpleasant odor that was manageable after I used some spray. At a quick glance the room seemed fine, but it left a lot to be desired. The bed was very uncomfortable and seemed much narrower than the queen we’d reserved. There was also a constant bad smell coming from the garbage disposal.

There were roaches in the first room. I spent an hour driving around to find somewhere else, but there was nothing available. The front desk associate tried his best to help us. The second room wasn’t any better: the phone cord had been pulled out of the wall, the lights didn’t work, and the refrigerator made such an awful noise that I unplugged it just to try to relax. I got maybe two hours of sleep because I was so upset. I saw no sign of the renovations mentioned. This was the worst hotel experience ever. It was disgusting, and I wish I could give it no stars. The owners and management should be taken to court, and the place should be shut down. Don’t book here.

The blanket had what looked like a skid mark, but otherwise my room was clean and comfortable. The place is quiet, the service was friendly, and the price was reasonable. It’s not a deluxe hotel, but it’s comfy enough that I’d return.
