Grand Palms Spa & Golf Resort

The young women at the front desk were friendly, but the facility itself is shabby and hasn't been maintained. It looks like it might have been a nice golf destination 30 years ago. I sometimes look for a lodging bargain, so I took a chance on this place, but the savings weren't worth it. You've been warned.

June at reception was nice and moved me to another room, but room 160 still had un-ironed sheets, just like room 154. On the morning of January 6th, room 160 had red ants too. I specifically booked a room with a microwave and fridge, and room 154 had neither. Its sheets weren't ironed, the door chain and bathroom lock were broken, and the bathroom fan didn't work. The old bedside lamps had no USB chargers; there were only two in the room, neither near the bed, so two people with phones and laptops or tablets couldn't charge everything conveniently. The pool was closed, and the restaurant was being renovated. Breakfast was served in a tiny room and had no eggs, oatmeal, small sandwiches, cereal, or pancakes, just bagels, cream cheese, grape jelly, apples, juice, and coffee. The person collecting vouchers had a big "Tips" cup beside her, and I don't know what tips were for. Parking cost $8.50, which hadn't been disclosed. I didn't know I needed to bring tea and decaf coffee, since neither was in the rooms. Very disappointed.

The rooms are really dated, and mine felt eerie and uncomfortable, with long mirrors across from the bed, on the nightstand, and at the end by the bathroom vanity. The atmosphere just bothered me. I got so freaked out that I left the TV on to sleep. At 3 AM I woke up to a religious video about a Bible verse and demonic creatures. I stayed awake working with the lights on until 5, then kept them on while I slept until about 7:30. I took my daughter to school and came back for breakfast, which was disappointing. I should've gone to Chick-fil-A and saved myself the extra 17-minute drive. I'm not sure how this place expects to keep operating as a hotel much longer. I know you get what you pay for, but this one was just off.

Amy at the front desk was amazing and gave exceptional service, but I was miserable enough during my stay that I mostly just slept. The rooms are huge, and I had a terrific view of the golf course, though the beautiful exterior doesn't match the inside, which needs remodeling. The furniture is old and sits very low, and the toilet seat and sink are for little people. The TVs in both the bedroom and living room are tiny, like something for a kid's room. My television kept scrambling while trying to find a channel, and the satellite setup needs proper cable. Breakfast was horrible. The oatmeal was supposed to be hot but was dried up, and the pancakes and cut-up sausage were dried out too. There was no orange juice or individual milk. Housekeeping couldn't speak English, and I don't understand how staff who can't communicate with guests could be hired. I won't be back.
