The room was cozy, and the tub and shower looked great. We parked right outside our room, and there were a few movies to choose from on the satellite TV. The desk clerk was so friendly at breakfast, even offering to get us more bagels. The restaurant was closed while we were there on Christmas Eve. We were glad we brought our own pillows, since the king bed only had three.

We were crossing the country to relocate with all our pets, and this was the only place we could find that accepted pets other than dogs. I appreciated that, but it still didn’t feel safe for them, and I wouldn’t stay again. If we’d been traveling for fun, I’d probably have laughed at some of this, but not everyone is here for a cute, fun trip. It’s a motel, with every room opening onto the road or parking lot. That mattered to us. When I called to ask if any rooms opened onto an interior hallway, the first person didn’t seem to understand or manage the call and passed the phone to someone else. The second person gave me a clear yes-or-no answer. The room wasn’t very clean. There was trash on the floor, a toenail and used Q-tip on the counter, and personal items left in the huge tub that takes up most of the bathroom. The floors in the room were absolutely freezing. The renovations looked like basic Home Depot handyman work with rough finishing. There were no coffee cups and just one small pod of coffee. The very bright LED strips around the headboard made the room look like an RV, and were too bright to use. They were attached with a janky plank, exposed wires, and a light switch. The metal stairs were rusty and poorly maintained, and every step could be heard. Outside lights were bright, while the curtains did little to block the light or street noise. And I still don’t understand why hotels insult guests with sandpaper for toilet paper. Wyndham taking over a piece of cultural history and turning it into such a plain, poorly designed motel without charm or personality felt unfortunate.

The evening staff member was really personable, and everyone was extremely kind. We had a nice, affordable, comfortable room for the night. Breakfast was just muffins and other grab-and-go items, but that suited us perfectly. We’ll definitely stay again.

We checked in very late, and the woman helping us was pleasant and really helpful. The price was great, and there were lots of places to walk to and eat nearby. The downtown rooms have been beautifully redesigned, everything worked, and it was clean. That tub was the best.

We looked through the online reviews before booking, and the friendly, helpful staff made the stay easy. The lounge was a nice option, and we liked both the location and the rooms. We enjoyed our time here and will be back.
