New Hope Inn & Suites

The employees were nice, and the lobby and location are appealing. There's good outdoor lighting by the pool, and the TVs were better than some I've seen in pricier hotels. The shower had good pressure, though the shower head itself was awful. The bed was okay, the pillows were terrible, and the HVAC seemed to do its own thing, swinging from hot to cold without touching the setting. No odd smells or stains, at least. The rooms are extremely dated, with holes in the walls and a bathroom so cramped that the sink is outside it. That setup feels like a real safety concern if someone were to pass out on the toilet. For a standard inn or motel stay it felt overpriced, though it was still much cheaper than anything else nearby. I might stay again if I came back.

The first-floor location of room 111 was handy for parking, but we could hear every word from people walking past, bass thumping somewhere, and footsteps overhead. The walls and ceilings seemed paper thin. The air conditioning wasn't great, and the sink being outside the bathroom made washing up loud enough to disturb anyone trying to sleep. Its faucet needs to extend farther out: water hit the back of the basin, splashed everywhere, and we had to wipe it up with a towel. The room was filthy. There was hair on the bed and in the tub, a terrible fart-like stink, fecal matter stuck in the scratches on the toilet lid, and a dirty anti-slip shower mat. The outlets were all loose and dirty, as were the switches and plates. The mattress was lumpy, and I couldn't stop wondering if the sheets had been changed. We skipped breakfast because after seeing that room, we didn't want to risk it. We paid $249.75!!!!, which was an abyssmal price for this place, especially since I'm now seeing much lower rates. I don't understand why we were charged so much. The front desk didn't even ask how our stay was, perhaps because they might hear negative feedback. I have no idea how anyone could rate this place highly. We'll never stay here again if we're in New Port. Terrible place!

We needed just one night, but ended up changing rooms three times in four hours. The first room had no heat. After dinner, the toilet in the second room wouldn't work, and neither would the phone to call the front desk. I walked down and waited 20 minutes with nobody at the desk. When a guy finally arrived, he barely spoke; I had to ask if he worked there. I said I needed a refund. Instead, he moved us again, this time to a room without a King bed, with only 2 fulls available. This was supposed to be an anniversary trip. He said a manager would be available in the morning, but the girl at the desk told me they weren't in until 3 or 4 pm and said they'd call to address everything. They never did. When I called again, someone said a manager doesn't work often and there's no manager on duty most of the time. They also said maintenance knew the heat wasn't working but hadn't told the front desk. When I raised the plumbing issue, the guy said, "yeah most of the rooms are like that." Why give out rooms with known problems? I've never had an experience like this. The unattended front area feels insane and unsafe, since anyone could walk in and take something. Nobody answered me or took responsibility for assigning rooms that didn't work. The front desk people couldn't care less, and apparently neither do the managers. Spend a few more dollars and go somewhere else.

We were first assigned room 203, where the mattress sagged completely in the middle. After I asked to switch, we got room 223. The mattress there was comfortable and the room seemed clean, until I woke up with a cockroach on my leg. They clearly have a roach problem. If that doesn't bother you, it's a fine place to stay. The location is great and the staff were mild-mannered and polite, though we didn't interact much and it felt very transactional. I didn't mention the roach at checkout because I didn't think I'd get anywhere with the staff. The place has potential, but I won't return. Hopefully management sees this and cleans it up. I'd like to see a refund; at the very least, I hope they deal with the mattress in 203 and the roaches in 223, if not the whole hotel.
