Courtyard by Marriott Phoenix North/Happy Valley

We only stayed one night for a quick local getaway, and it was just what we needed. Check-in was quick and friendly, and the room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we wanted for a relaxing break. The bed was especially comfortable, so we slept really well. The staff made us feel welcome even during such a short visit. We’d definitely come back for another little staycation.

After the mess with our original hotel, this place was a saving grace. We were over 100 miles from home for my daughter’s sports event when the other hotel, which we’d booked by mistake, overbooked and canceled our room at 8 PM while we were on the way. The front desk person here was so understanding. The room was clean, and the shower was great and much needed after that horrible night. Thank you, Mariott, for giving my family and me a consistently solid stay.

The worst hotel experience I’ve had, by far. I stayed in January 2026, and the room felt filthy. The floors were old and dirty, and within minutes of lying down I started itching. I also got trapped inside because the door lock wouldn’t let me out; I had to call the front desk so they could open it from outside. The amenities were poor: a cheap spring mattress, a cheap mini fridge, and a confusing, cheap coffee machine with no bottled water. In my opinion, that’s done to push guests toward overpriced Starbucks coffee. There were no basic toiletries like toothpaste, and I could hear footsteps outside at all hours. To top it off, they sold me a Starbucks drink that was more than 40 days past its expiration date.

I’m not looking for a refund. The brown stains on the bed sheets and towels were bad enough, but the main issue I’m writing about is that my son got food poisoning from the bar food. I’d be cautious about eating there. The bartender seemed more interested in flirting with a customer than possibly preparing the food properly. It was a bad experience, which is a shame because I’ve usually had good stays at Courtyard by Marriott.
