Days Inn by Wyndham Airport - Phoenix

We only stayed about 5-6 hours after booking at the last minute for one night, then left early. The person who checked me in was really nice, but the room was in terrible shape. The bathroom looked like it might have mold, the paint was peeling, and the sheets smelled of smoke even though I’d requested non-smoking. A light didn’t work, and things seemed to be falling apart. I took a lot of pictures of the problems and what looked like hazards. We’re considering reporting the place to the health department. The bathroom window was see-through, so anyone could see in. There wasn’t a proper parking space for my car either, and I parked in the dirt like other people.

The parking shuttle was hard to identify. It was a contracted airport parking service, but there were no markings or details in the booking itinerary to explain that. I waited at the airport for hours expecting a Days Inn shuttle, while the contracted vans I later recognized kept driving past. One driver said they’d suggested adding the service name to the website and booking confirmation, but apparently that still hadn’t happened. Inside, the room was dirty despite supposedly being non-smoking. There was cigarette ash on the bathroom baseboard, hair in the sink and hanging from the faucet, scant towels hung carelessly, torn sheets, and dust everywhere. The manager seemed indifferent when I pointed out the condition and deflected my concerns. The manager described the free breakfast as “grab and go,” but I’m writing this on the night of my stay, so I’ll see what that means tomorrow. I’ll be gone after that, thankfully. They charged a damage deposit up front, which felt ironic given what I found. These are just my first impressions, but I wouldn’t come back even if I were paid. The price was low, but a paid room should still be clean.

The guys at the check-in desk were nice, and we didn’t see any bugs when we ordered delivery. The room was near the airport, though the neighborhood didn’t feel good, and the outside of the property was dirty. If you book through a third party, there’s a $100 deposit at check-in. They’d tried to update the room with wood floors and tile around the tub, but there was a fist-sized hole in the bathroom door with rough plaster, no sanding or paint. There was only one towel and two hand towels, not enough for two people. The blanket and sheets were clean but stained. An outlet cover was missing with wires sticking out, and the TV cable came from that same area. The room smelled like cigarettes even though smoking isn’t allowed within 20 feet of the room. In the morning, we saw the cleaning lady smoking, which explained it.

The beds were comfortable, but the comforter had cigarette burns and looked dirty or very old, like it needed replacing. The staff were friendly, though not well trained. The TV was already on when we entered, which felt strange. There were several upkeep problems: bathroom shelves that looked ready to drop anything placed on them, a toilet that didn’t work properly, faded old walls, and a baseboard pulling away from the wall. Tile was cracked or broken in several spots. Police were on the premises when we arrived, and the hotel is in a bad part of town. I expected better care from a Wyndahm property. We won’t stay here again, and hope the main company checks whether this place meets its standards.
