Embassy Suites by Hilton Phoenix Scottsdale

The room was great, and this was one of the nicer Embassy Suites we've stayed at. Breakfast was free and wonderful, and the setting on the edge of a golf course was pleasant. I generally find the corporate hassle at Hilton Hotels aggravating, but this visit was nice. If you can get past that side of things, you'll likely enjoy your stay. I'd recommend this location.

The bed was the worst part. My husband and I both woke up with sore hips each day, and at 60 we didn't expect a bad mattress to leave us hurting. A smoke alarm went off before sunrise on our last morning, too. We chose this hotel for the location, and while they did remove the first night's fee at my request, I'd have gladly paid twice as much for a comfortable stay. We won't return. I did appreciate that they arranged an allergy-free room, but everything else was rough. On arrival the sink was clogged, and neither room phone worked to call the front desk. Our cell phones were almost dead after a long travel day. The next morning, while we were getting ready for a funeral, there was no hot water in the shower. A kind staff member tried to fix it, then sent us down the hall to shower in another room, which wasn't great when we were already running late. It was repaired by the time we got back that afternoon. If you avoid dairy, you may want to skip breakfast. When I asked about something dairy-free besides a banana, I was told they didn't keep it because it goes bad before it's used. I asked for milk, and they wouldn't even check with the restaurant to see if they had any.

The room cleaning could've been better, but I can't wait to come back. The location was stellar, and the view and amenities covered everything I wanted. Breakfast was awesome, especially the Embassy omelettes and waffles. Staff were helpful and friendly.

The photos made this look like a resort, but the rooms were nothing like the pictures. They were dirty, with strange spots on the walls, and dust and debris fell when I closed the curtains. Water pressure was weaker than my garden hose and the water only lukewarm. Mattress covers looked industrial grade. The hallways felt dank, like a government IRS office, and the staff seemed indifferent. Accessible rooms were seemingly miles from the elevator. A Greyhound bus would be better, and jail might be an improvement decor-wise. It felt like maybe 1978, and I wouldn't want to check the room with a blue light. If you stay despite the warnings, bring a vacuum, bleach or another cleaner, cleaning towels, sheets, and extra towels. Deceptive advertising.
