Fairfield Inn & Suites Phoenix Airport

The front desk staff were phenomenal, really friendly and courteous. In the room, the AC worked, the shower pressure was good, and the bed was comfortable. It was clean enough overall, though one bed looked like someone had sat on it, and there were black stains in the tub. The building feels older. It seems renovated, but the dingy-looking tiles and torn 100% guarantee sign in the elevator fell short of my expectations for a Fairfield Inn & Suites. For this chain, I'd put it toward the lower end. It was decent for resting after a long day. Breakfast wasn't good. There was water pooled under the eggs, the attendant wasn't welcoming or very talkative, and lots of tables still had crumbs or liquid on them.

Update: Marriott and the hotel's regional manager got in touch and made things right. That’s the kind of response I expect from this brand, and they lived up to it. I was wrong about management not caring about service. I hope things are getting better for Shannon, and things are looking up for me too. Before that, Shannon was the rudest hotel employee I've ever encountered. I had just received different instructions from her colleague, but then Shannon yelled at me on the phone for not following hers. I’d also asked in writing for a room away from the elevator, yet she put me right beside it. The woman who checked in after me got a room at the end of the hall, so it wasn't their last room. At the time, I felt management didn’t care about customer service and wasn’t training staff. I’ll use Shannon and this hotel as an example in my management classes for years, under “why would anyone punish their customers and other tales of the emotionally unintelligent.”

There was plenty of parking, and the rooms were spacious and updated. Check-in was simple, breakfast was good, and the place was quiet and clean. The hallways are a bit creepy because they're narrow and somewhat dim, but they're still in nice condition.

Aside from slow internet and a small pool, this is a great hotel. It feels modern and is very clean. The rooms seem to have been updated recently, at least within the past year.
