Elk Creek Resort

We’re staying here in our RV while looking for a home in the Black Hills. It’s quiet, set back from the highway, and there’s plenty of friendly wildlife around. The property is kept up well, the location is convenient, and the owners and staff have been welcoming and accommodating.

We were worn out on our way to Oregon and needed somewhere to sleep, so it was a relief when management waved us over and found us a cabin. Such a nice, family-friendly place, and the people were lovely. Thanks for fitting us in for the night!

The views here are lovely, and we stayed 10 days in our 36ft 5th wheel. The weekly price of $300 seemed fair, though the $200 for 3 nights felt too high. They also charge more when there are over 2 people. The place itself wasn't bad, but the cost didn't feel justified. We arrived just after a blue grass festival, and the garbage was overflowing everywhere, including the dumpster near us. The flies were awful, and it took about 3 days for the trash to be collected. Phone service was very limited for us regardless of carrier, and the Wi-Fi kept dropping. Our internet box from the phone company didn't work, so you'll be better off with your own satellite or starlink. I picked the place partly because I hoped to relax in the pool, but it's open to the public and was busy with lots of kids. When I tried going in the evening, there were bugs all over and no skimmer to clear them out. Laundry costs $3 to wash, for small loads only, and $1.25 to dry. Four of the six dryers were broken or damaged inside and could tear clothes, so check which one you use. The bathrooms were pretty standard. I had no trouble with the three women's showers, and there were a few unisex ones when those were full, though they were always locked.

We held our family reunion here. The view is beautiful, and the kids had a playground. For what it cost, though, we thought tables and chairs should have been set up without an extra fee, if setup was available at all. The place could use a few upgrades, and nobody checked in with us to ask if we needed anything or how it was going.
