The staff were great, and we found the rates reasonable and the location really accessible. My family enjoyed our stay at Capitol Inn & Suites. The place was clean, sleek, and well maintained, with clean rooms and fantastic bedding. Breakfast was stocked and the area was clean, too. There’s a big outdoor pool and an exercise room that looked inviting, though we didn’t have time to use either. We’ll definitely come back on our next trip.

The public areas looked much nicer than the motel itself. In our second floor room, the concrete steps were broken, the wall holes had been patched with plaster but never painted, the windows were dirty, and the curtains didn’t cover them fully, so someone could see in. The photos make the place look way better. I wouldn’t recommend it and would warn people not to waste their money. We paid double the price we’d been quoted eight weeks earlier. When I asked for the overcharge back, I was told only a manager could do that. Apparently the manager was around when it was time to take our money or buy pillows, but not then. It took 30 minutes to check in even though only one person was ahead of us. The attitude was basically, there are three state sporting events in town, so we were out of luck. In our “suite,” one sink wouldn’t hold water and the other wouldn’t drain. There were no pillowcases at first, and the pillows were about 2 inches thick and stuffed into shams. The sheets were so thin you could see through them. We found an empty pop bottle under one bed, plus a lighter and leftover tool in the other bedroom. There were two beer bottle caps on top of the fridge. After we complained, the manager bought pillows, and we got pillowcases the second night. That was about the extent of what got taken care of. I left some threads on the floor by the couch, and they were still there after the room was “cleaned,” along with the dusty bunny factory under the couch. The only good thing was plenty of hot water, though the shower seemed to have two settings, boiled lobster or straight out of the Missouri. I had reservations about booking, and unfortunately my fears came true. Appalling. Don’t stay there.

The whole room smelled bad, and the bathroom was nasty. I was traveling alone with my little dog and felt unsafe around the people on the property. The bedspreads had burn holes, the heater didn’t work, and one of the two beds had a huge indent like a million people had slept in it. The other bed was by the window and freezing. I didn’t pull back the covers, just used my own blanket and pillow. Loud neighbors woke me at 3 after I’d gone to sleep at 10. I was checked out and gone by 3:15. Not a pleasant stay, and I don’t recommend it.

The rooms were clean and as good as, or better than, I expected for the price. I paid more the night before for a room that wasn’t nearly as nice. But the customer service needs work. We arrived around 8 pm to a cold room. I turned up the heat and went out to eat, but when we got back, it was still cold and the heater wasn’t putting out heat. The front desk said he’d send the “maintanence man,” but nobody came for over an hour. When I went back, he said the old system had been running the AC during the warm weather and couldn’t have heat and AC on at once. He said they had heaters but they were all out, and he’d need to call the manager to see what could be done. He wouldn’t call while I was there and said he’d call my room afterward. About ten minutes later someone came and “turned on” the heat in about two minutes. Why did it take over 90 minutes?

We had cockroaches and bed bugs, and we’re still trying to get rid of them in our new apartment. The owner wouldn’t reimburse us for the stay and even threatened to come after us with a lawyer for getting rid of the pests. Worst experience ever.
