Clubhouse Hotel & Suites Pierre

We had a great experience, and I’d stay here again if I pass through Pierre, SD. The rooms were spacious and nicely appointed, with comfortable beds, and breakfast had lots of good choices. Shelby checked us in and was pleasant and helpful. When our TV didn’t work, Shelby moved us to another room quickly and easily. Jim checked us out the next morning and was just as friendly and pleasant.

We used the hotel as a home base while visiting relatives because it’s centrally located. The room was nice, the beds were comfortable, the public areas were updated and well maintained, and the staff were attentive. I did feel stuffy in the room each night, though, and later found out pets are allowed, which may explain it. The bathroom could use an update: the tub was hard to get in and out of, even just for a shower, with no grab bars or bath mat, and the curtain wouldn’t stay closed so water got on the floor. The room doors were big and heavy. Breakfast was standard, but some of the hot food was out and the only fruit was an orange. They don’t clean the room unless you ask.

We stay in Pierre often to see family, but we won’t come back here. We were there for three nights around Christmas 2025. The attached restaurant, Red Rossa, took three hours to serve our group of eight on the first night. We had a reservation and waited over two hours just to get the food. The pool was great for young kids. Breakfast was fine, but both mornings there was hardly anything left by 8 am. It seemed the food had been prepared once at 6 and not refilled. Check-in was fine until we tried to set up the pullout bed for our daughters. There was no bedding in the room, and the zipper bag in the closet was empty. The man at the desk didn’t know what we meant and gave us one sheet and a bed top cover. He said they had no pillows, so we took two from our king bed. That night was okay. Christmas Eve was awful. The guests upstairs partied and made a racket until about 4 am. I asked for help for hours. The attendant went to their door, but nobody answered, so she said she couldn’t do anything. She offered us another room, but we moved the next day. My girls had finally fallen asleep around 2 am, and I wasn’t going to wake everyone at 4 am on Christmas morning to move. I’ve worked in service, waiting tables and bartending for 20 years, and this was the first time I’d ever complained to a front desk. It was ridiculous. She tried to help but gave up pretty quickly. When we checked out on the 26th, they took one $40 “service fee” off the $600+ bill to “accommodate our issues” with the noise. It could have been more, but I understand corporations have guidelines. Three hours after we got home, we realized we’d left our Apple TV plugged into the suite’s TV. That was totally our fault, and it was a bummer. I called right away, but it was already gone and nobody could “find it.” So that’s annoying, it grew legs pretty quickly.

For a city this size, it’s a pretty upscale place, and the staff are kind and helpful. The facility is dated in places, especially the old bathtub and shower, and it lacks more current technology. Since it’s one of the most expensive rooms in Pierre, I expected more modern interiors.
