Rodeway Inn Marshall Manor

The inn is set off in a quiet valley with farms around it, and we were glad we chose it even though it’s farther from Watkins Glen than we’d hoped. We’d hesitated because the price was lower than nearby places, but the room was spacious, clean, and had the basics we needed. The bathroom was roomy and clean too, with great water pressure. A simple breakfast in the small reception area was just right before our morning hike at Watkins Glen. We arrived late, and the cheerful front desk clerk got us checked in quickly.

The office looked nice, and I did pass a room that seemed a little more updated. Maybe I’d have felt better about paying $115 before tax if ours had been like that and had been cleaned more thoroughly. My husband booked it because the reviews said it was clean, but our bathroom had a filthy light switch and a moldy ceiling. There was a patch of wallpaper missing where something had been removed, leaving a hole in the bare wall with what looked like wires inside. One brass light fixture had only its base painted white, with rust coming through. The comforter seemed old, like one from a home. Age alone doesn’t bother me, but the mold and grime were gross. The fridge was in the bathroom, which felt unhygienic, and the cups weren’t wrapped. I’d rather not use cups that may have been handled by the people cleaning the toilets.

The rooms and yard are clearly cared for, and the staff are really nice. It’s quiet and clean, and a good choice if you want somewhere nice without spending much. Thanks to the owner for keeping it this way and for having such respectful people at the desk. I’ll come back anytime.

Spotless, comfortable room, and checking in early was easy. A nice property for a quick stop or a few nights around Watkins Glen. The staff were helpful and very nice. I’ll stay here again on a future Finger Lakes trip.
